When I started going out as a freshman, I admittedly had no idea what to wear. I lived in an all-girls dorm, which meant I had plenty of closets to borrow clothes from on any given weekend, and my style evolved as the semester progressed, especially as I learned how different each type of party can be. And while at first getting ready for a night out felt intimidating, I learned through my floormates that it’s all about the confidence you bring to an outfit. Still feeling stuck and don’t know what to wear to that event you RSVP’d to tonight? I rounded up a few party-ready ensembles from the CF community to test-drive with items in your wardrobe, whether you’re headed to an on-campus mixer or an in-town dance party.
House Party:
Make an Entrance in Metallics
Ready to stand out in a crowd of going-out tops and LBDs? Try gold metallic culottes on for size. We love how they look layered with a simple black top and leather jacket. It’s easy enough for a night of party hopping but still a showstopper.
Date Party:
Dress Up Your Denim
A flowy tie crop top instantly makes a pair of high-waisted jeans ready for a night out — not to mention its easy to throw together if you’re short on time and getting ready to meeting up with friends right after class. Try keeping the hues muted so you can play with accessories like pendant necklaces and metallic heels for maximum glamour.
Snow Day Party:
Cozy Up in Faux Fur
Even if you’re planning to stay in for a night, having a super-warm outfit for the pics is always fun. While this look is definitely all about a cool faux-fur jacket, we love how the cropped silhouette pairs with high-waisted jeans and water-ready patent leather booties. It’s those extra details that make trekking in the snow to a dance party even more memorable.
Dinner Party:
Add an Unexpected Twist With Velvet
Headed to a fancy fete to attend at a classmate’s off-campus apartment? Trade in your cocktail dress for a pair of statement trousers, and bonus points if you can score a pair in lux crushed velvet. These silver pants look even chicer in the winter months, pairing well with a classic white button-down shirt and blazer for a sophisticated look.
Darty:
Go for Comfort in Distressed Staples
If you’re invited to a day party, keeping your look relaxed and focusing on easy details is always a simple option. A frayed denim skirt paired with chic and minimal slipons and some easy jewelry makes this look simple to throw together if you plan to meet up with friends after a quick study sesh in the library or lunch in the quad.
