As the band Loverboy said, “Everybody’s working for the weekend.” Whether you are working at a day camp, taking summer classes or rocking your first internship, we are all counting down the days until the weekend. Those two and a half days of freedom are a time to catch up with friends and let our personal style shine.
I caught up with this Fashionista at a picnic, the epitome of any summer weekend. Knowing that she would be spending her day outside in the sun, our Fashionista opted for a functional, yet fashionable outfit. Her white shorts and light blue, button-down shirt are made of a light fabric, perfect for the inescapable humidity that takes over Long Island from mid-May until the end of August. She goes easy on the jewelry by wearing a dainty infinity necklace and simple silver ring, making her ombré blue sunglasses the main accessory. Sunglasses are by far my favorite accessory and a staple for any summer outfit.
Although I have a bias towards the sunglasses, our Fashionista’s vest is what caught my attention. Vests have the unique ability to transcend seasons, making it an extremely versatile piece of clothing. The off-white, down vest featured in this outfit is thin enough to be worn in the summer, but could easily be worn in a cooler season by altering the other items of clothing.
One Simple Change: Already wondering what you’ll wear to your first sorority event next semester? Simply swap out the button-down for a graphic T-shirt that shows off your letters! For a dressier look, layer a vest over a patterned, preppy dress.
