WHAT TO WEAR: Winter in Florida

This time of year, we enthusiastic Fashionistas tend to find ourselves in a fall state of mind—even those of us way down south of the cold weather borderline. (I’m talking to you, fellow residents of Gainesville, FL.)

With the (slightly) falling temperatures of winter finally hitting the northern Florida mainland, students attending the elite University of Florida have been forced to ditch their Birkenstocks and sundresses in favor of wool knit sweaters and boots of the non-cowboy variety. But in a small college town that’s hot, wet, and sticky 99 percent of the time, acclimating to the change in climate can be a difficult challenge for most.

Bearing witness to the style transition from fall to winter with a sometimes exasperated, sometimes bemused temperament, I’ve felt personally inclined to correct some of the fashion faux pas committed on campus à la Stacy London from TLC’s What Not To Wear. Still, there’s only so much a one-woman Style Guru can do on a daily basis.

Enter the solution: our undergrad, undercover Fashionista.

(Okay, so she’s not actually undercover—but you have to admit that the stylishly unbuttoned trench coat adds some much-appreciated mystery to the outfit!)

Our wondrously elegant Fashionista sports a look that’s almost fresh off the Calvin Klein runway. Evoking some serious Old Hollywood vibes (Katharine Hepburn and Grace Kelly, anyone?), her preppy-meets-menswear outfit had me hooked from the start. The attention to detail itself deserves some praise: after all, not many people these days are that adamant about matching gold rings to warm toned outerwear, or tucking in stiff blouses for a classy, disheveled look. And accessorizing with a vintage neck scarf? Be still, my stylish heart!

To imitate this Fashionista’s fabulously undone, cosmopolitan look, get your wallets out right this second. With some fast typing and special two-day delivery (oh, the modern-day marvels of the internet and online retailers), you yourself might be able to update your wardrobe faster than greased lightnin’. Ready?

For her slim boyfriend jeans, visit True Religion. Meanwhile, similar faux suede tasseled loafers are available at Tod’s. The Calvin Klein trench coat (perfect for reenactments of the final scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s) is, luckily, in stock. Though the white button-down and silk scarf were both thrifted, like copies can actually be found at Equipment and Fendi respectively.

Done? Good. But wait, there’s more—don’t forget to RAD this post and share with all of your friends, family, neighbors, annoying coworkers, online stalkers, etc!
